I may be a bit biased when it comes to Holly Noll of Vegan Shortcake. Afterall we are co-stars of the above cooking show of the same name not to mention besties. Check out the photos from my recent art opening at XGym! It was so much fun. We had fantastic fat burning food from Delicious Planet, low-glycemic deserts by Vegan Shortcake, a freaking amazing exercise demonstration from PJ, and lots of great feedback on the new art on the walls. Oh how I love James and Lisa’s wedding. Let me count the ways:
1. They were planning superstars! Their schedule was all inclusive and they kept everything on time. This was a dream come true! Sometimes weddings executed without a designated wedding planner turn into a disaster in heels! But not at James and Lisa’s wedding. She thought of everything, right down to the SoleMates – high heel covers so the ladies could walk in the grass in stilettos without getting stuck!
2. They made time for photos!! This is so important. A lot of brides try to have their cake and eat it too. They want to save money so they skimp on photography time. But then they also want those stellar fashion-forward bridal portraits too. It’s a real challenge to gather everyone for photos once all the guests have arrived, the ceremony ended, and the party’s getting started. Your bridal parties get distracted, your new mother in law is stuck talking to your chatty cousins – you get the idea.
James and Lisa went over all of this ahead of time and decided that doing all the bridals and family photos BEFORE the ceremony would be the best way to go. I definitely agree with this decision. They planned 3 hours for photos before the ceremony which gave us plenty of time to get all the family photos done, the bridal and grooms party photos, intimate portraits of just the bride and groom, as well as gave us the opportunity to do first looks photos – which is the shot where the groom sees his bride in her dress for the first time. You can’t do first looks if the you’re not willing to see your partner before the ceremony.
3. It was a VEGAN WEDDING!!!!! Yay! I’m not sure I got that many photos of the food because I WAS BUSY EATING, which is such a rarity for me at weddings! The food was so amazing. The cake blew everyone’s mind. If that cake didn’t convince people that being vegan is awesome, I don’t know what would.
I could probably go on and on about how much I love James and Lisa and their sweet sweet wedding day!
I had the great honor and privilege of photographing Lori and Kat’s wedding at Hidden Meadows in Snohomish Washington. It was held on a perfectly sunny May day – a rare treat in the Seattle area. It was my first gay wedding and I got the job, not based on my experience, but based on my energy! I think Kat and Lori could instinctively tell how much I wanted to do this wedding and how important it is for me to show equality and diversity in my work.
It is difficult to believe that we have come so far on some issues (we have an African American president, people!) and yet we are so far behind on others. To have a set of rights and privileges granted to one group of people and denied to another is discrimination and completely contrary to everything this country stands for. There is no asterisk exclaiming “Liberty and Justice for All *unless you happen to be attracted to the same gender” in our pledge of allegiance. We as a country should not stop fighting until all people are treated equally under the law. One way we can fight this injustice is to honor our friends and families relationships; to celebrate their love; legitimize their commitment; to attend their ceremonies and weddings and treat them with the respect and dignity they absolutely deserve. We should unite with our LGBT communities until our laws catch up to our beliefs.
Straight white people are not the only people who deserve a perfect wedding day. So cheers to Kat and Lori, two beautiful brides!!

I’ve been thinking about starting a vegan wedding site for a long time. I’ve been meeting all these great vendors lately and want to compile them into a cohesive list to make choices simple for the vegan brides out there. After laboring over what I would call the site, looking for domain names, considering branding and all this, I just decided to stick it on RebeccaBolte.com. I am, afterall, a vegan wedding vendor myself – so why not?
