Inspiration

For this project I was interested in exploring edible plants. In looking at them under a macro lens, I was especially drawn to the parts of the plants that are often cut off and discarded. These images capture a rarely appreciated side of otherwise common plants.

Process

I paired each image with either the discarded portion of a type 55 Polaroid or the Polaroid negative itself. Traditionally type 55 Polaroids are exclusively shot with large format cameras and are only available in black and white. One of the most intriguing parts of this film is the way the image bleeds into the border. The image and the film meld together a unique and unpredictable way. Using digital overlay, I was able to achieve this look in color for the first time. The result is a new and original approach to a traditional technique.
